Every person with autism or ADHD is different, with their own stories, strengths, and challenges. There is no stereotype, and it is important to listen to lived experiences to become aware and understand the full spectrum of traits. This will help teachers understand and open their minds to taking an intuitive approach towards supporting their neurodivergent students. Callum offers his insights from his lived experience and provides tips on how teachers can build a strong working relationship with autistic students. He and his business partner and mother, Caren, provide talks to schools, colleges, and universities on teacher training days, regular days, and at other events.
The talks are in a talk-show style with role-play elements. Caren interviews Callum about his strengths, challenges, and life experiences. You will then witness examples of challenging situations to demonstrate the perspective clashes between the teacher and neurodivergent student. You gain insights into how your newfound understanding and focus on a student’s strengths can help them overcome their challenges. Furthermore, you learn about the positive actions you can take to encourage attendance and engagement and how to prepare your students for life after education. We also introduce you to our U-finity Effect Theory, which outlines the peaks and pitfalls of a teacher’s working relationship with autistic and other neurodivergent students and how you can reduce the pitfalls over time.
